The Art Institute of California - Hollywood, a Los Angeles based design college is one of the Art Institutes, America’s leader in postsecondary career-oriented education for the creative arts. We offer degree programs in Interior Design, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, and Web Design & Interactive Media, Set & Exhibit Design, and Visual Effects & Motion Graphics. We are located in the arts district of North Hollywood near Lankershim and Magnolia.
The Art Institute of California - Hollywood is looking for a part-time instructor to teach in the Graphic Design program. Our classroom sizes are small, and our labs include the latest in technology and software. Preparing academic curriculum and developing lesson plans is an important part of this position.
We are currently hiring for our Fall Quarter which begins October 5, 2009. The classes are 4 hours in length and run for 11 weeks. Classes may be scheduled for Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (morning/afternoon classes) or evenings from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
The courses offered are:
GD1133
This is a digital typography course. This class will enable the student to better design with type and visuals, and utilize technology in problem solving. Emphasis will be on the process of design development from roughs to comprehensives, layout, and the use of a grid system for multi-component layouts.
GD2243 Typography II – hierarchy
This is a fourth-quarter typography course and is a continuation of the study of the fundamentals of typography. Exercises and projects focus on the hierarchical qualities of typography. The development of marketable, original, and creative problem solving solutions will also be examined with an emphasis on creative techniques. Industry-standard software will be used in the development of digital typography and hierarchal skills.
• Candidates have a Bachelor’s Degree but preference is given to candidates with Master’s level degrees in graphic design or related disciplines.
• Candidates must have strong graphic design and interface design skills, and in-depth experience with appropriate industry software.
• Previous experience in teaching at a post secondary school environment or training is highly desirable.
• Must have references and a professional portfolio documenting your work.
