HelloRiotStudio.com is seeking artists to join our venue. We are a group of artists and we are opening a space in Culver City in Jan of 2010 and actively looking for 5-10 additional artists. To learn more about who we are and what we do please visit our brand new site: www.helloriotstudio.com and see the mission and about tabs. In short: Think a revised version of Warhol's factory or Murakamis KaiKaiKiKi. This is for artists serious about a revolution in art distribution and want to be part of a serious movement in how art is exhibited.
In sum: we are a group of artists pooling resources to create a more egalitarian art distribution process: we run the space, we put on shows of our work, we get our work out there, talk art, engage with the public and are in control of our conceptual art destiny. We work with mass market forces as well to sell art services etc to support the space. This studio will be a platform for great things - so I'm looking for the right group of artists to work with.
Candidates should be:
1. Financially smart - we want artists that are not looking for handouts, meal tickets etc - be smart, be sufficient, be in control of your destiny
2. Serious and professional: art is your life, you might even have an MFA or like degree, you are the real deal - Sunday painters and artist 'lifestyle' wanna-be's need not reply. You should have a very serious aesthetic, know what and why you work as you do and be able to defend it critically.
3. You are political and serious about your views
4. Ideally you are an installation artist and extremely well versed in contemporary art
We are a group of artists that takes art VERY seriously and see it as a tough, rigorous and intellectual pursuit that matters a lot to society.
Please reply if you think you might be interested. No images, portfolios of work or websites needed. Just tell us about yourself and why you think you're a fit.
Thank you.
