We are seeking an inventive, entrepreneurial, detail-orientated and ambitious Senior Product Manager to work with the rapidly expanding team managing Demand Media’s 15+ specialty sites, including Essortment, GreenCar, i-Chef or Synonym.com., with the objective of managing and launching at scale relevant, topical specialty sites to match audience needs. As Senior Product Manager, you will be responsible for the Specialty Site Platform’s business metrics and product strategy. This is a hands-on role with management responsibilities.
Project Management & Development Guidance – 40%
• Lead the migration of all remaining specialty sites onto the new platform
• Work closely with project contributors to better understand costs and benefits of each initiative as an aid to prioritization
• Decompose initiatives into steps with owners and due dates to ensure predictable outcomes
• Identify dependencies, assumptions and constraints that affect the outcome of each project
• Plan iterations and lead inspection efforts throughout life cycle
• Understand and manage the site’s uptime and help troubleshoot when the site experiences technical difficulties. Coordinate the site’s development team as well as the systems team
P&L Management – 40%
• With the guidance of the SVP of the Vertical Media Network, manage the Specialty Site Platform business against budget goals, including traffic numbers and monetization
• Monitor the business metrics and provide guidance around trends and movements
• Take corrective action and drive the product roadmap to ensure budget goals are met
Product Design – 20%
• Focus on selecting platform features that will best match each specialty site’s objectives Collaboratively drive strategy discussions for product roadmap. Instill processes to keep living roadmap highly visible and accessible to all stakeholders
• Survey marketplace for similar approaches and evaluate how the team might do things better/ differently or leverage successful techniques where they exist
• Manage delivery of Product Requirements Documents that clearly state the core functional and brand goals of the product and give an in-depth explanation of the desired functionality
• Create or manage delivery of wireframes for pages and/or features to illustrate concepts
• Possess working knowledge of technologies being applied to implementation of product
Requirements:
• 7+ years of significant product / project management experience in an online media site, social networking site, or ecommerce site
• Exceptional leadership skills; must establish credibility within teams as a knowledgeable, effective leader that knows where projects are today and where they need to go
• Experience managing a P&L
• Experience managing the technical aspects of a website/web product
• Experience with SEO and various monetization channels
• Proven track record as a product manager - complete life cycles of winning products in a fast-paced environment (prefer start-up experience)
• Working knowledge of the product development stages and process, and the technologies involved in web development
• Must be a committed team player, able to work both independently and interact with executive management, and other staff members
• Working knowledge of Agile Development Methodology / Scrum
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to work and strive in a fast pace environment
• Self driver, entrepreneurial mindset
