We’re looking for a Database Engineer to join our Technology Department. In this role, you will be working with T-SQL to write stored procedures, views, optimize queries and monitor performance. In addition, you will also be working with legacy code, figuring out what is functional and should be maintained and what is obsolete, cleaning existing backend code.

In this position you’ll be reporting to the Database Manager, providing additional bandwidth to the database group. You will also work closely with the development and network operations teams. Responsibilities:
- Support highly-available database technologies involving clustering, mirroring, and replication.
- Monitor and maintain database security; migrate databases between servers and various platforms. Basically ensuring that all business critical processes and jobs are completing successfully. Responsible for ensuring that all aspects of a SQL Server and its databases which are critical to determining their health are being adequately monitored. For example: blocking, persistent locks, long running transactions, log files out of space, service not available. Responsible for ensuring that all business critical monitoring is able to raise alerts according to expectations.
- Know how to achieve set performance expectations and must be able to review collected performance metrics, analyze it to understand the state of the system.
- Perform database back-up/recovery; perform fault analysis and resolution; implement and maintain disaster recovery solutions including replication and Log Shipping; and monitor and manage database backups, logs, and maintenance.
- Lead SQL Server Database reviews, creation, maintenance, and change control; monitor databases to optimize performance, resource use, and physical implementation
- Support the data modeling with the design of new databases to meet application requirements; support design and implementation of ETL processes between disparate systems; and continually maintain and support mission critical SQL Server applications.
- Interact with development team to identify data needs and potential issues as well as help design and implement solutions to the source system applications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 5-7 years experience in the technology realm
- 3 years experience with SQL 2005
- 1 year experience with SQL 2008
- 2+ years hands-on experience of development and administration with SQL Server with high availability.
- 3-4 years experience in an internet environment
- Prior experience using the basic concepts of how the physical hardware that a SQL Server relies upon functions like: processors and their interaction with memory, network and storage, controllers, cache, disks and RAID types and how the server communicates to the network, switches, routers, network interface cards, etc.
- Prior experience using information from the tools provided with SQL Server like: Query Analyzer, Profiler, Enterprise Manager, Client & Server Network Utilities, bcp.exe, dtsrun.exe, textcopy.exe and osql.exe and third part tools like red-gate, lite speed etc.
- Prior experience isolating and resolving typical problems with the SQL Server application and the databases. For example: Loss or lack of connectivity, inability to leverage services provided by database, SQL Server specific errors, timeouts and severe loss of performance.
Preferred:
- Prior experience using OLAP
- Prior experience using MS Analysis Services
- Prior experience using MS Reporting Services
- Prior experience using 2005 BI Studio
