The Software Engineer will work directly with a team of Software Engineers, Database Engineers to maintain game servers, design and innovative cutting-edge features for casual games. This person will directly report to the Associate Development Manager.
We are Nexon America Inc., the North American publishing arm of Nexon Group (1994), a pioneer of interactive entertainment software and the worlds leader in massive multiplayer online games which it developed and introduced in 1996.
Nexon America opened for business in Los Angeles in 2005 to bring the best of online entertainment to North American audiences. The companys growing library of titles includes the world-famous franchise MapleStory, the role playing fantasy life of Mabinogi and the online multiplayer first-person shooter Combat Arms.
Responsibilities:
Configure servers.
Actively participate in the engineering process for large scale 24/7 live online-game operations.
Help improve our uptime and scalability through better processes, infrastructure, and automation.
Troubleshoot issues with hardware, software, applications and network.
Continually document and expose configuration processes and policies.
Prioritize tasks and work independently, while interacting with other product and engineering teams.
Share on-call duties with other engineers on the team, to ensure smooth 24/7 operation.
Monitor the live systems and analyze & fix operational and performance issues when they occur.
Analyze results, prepare performance and activity reports and propose improvement & remediation plans.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cross functional team.
Working closely with software engineers to tune performance and identify problems.
Qualifications:
BS degree in Computer Science or related field.
2-4 years in live system operations/data center environment.
Understanding/experience of TCP/IP, storage, SQL databases etc.
Knowledge and experience administering cross OS based infrastructure (Windows and Linux administration).
Extensive experience in troubleshooting hardware and software.
A strong understanding of systems administration best practices.
Knowledge of SQL.
A deep knowledge about how to measure performance, identify and fix bottlenecks, and re-architect large systems that are already in production.
Good system monitoring and management skills.
Sense of ownership and ability to take quick action when necessary.
Creative problem solver with flexibility to work in a start-up environment.
Enthusiasm for games particularly online gaming, casual gaming or MMORPG.
Solid scripting and automation capabilities particularly around software deployment a plus.
Extensive experience with scripting a plus.
Extensive experience in troubleshooting hardware and software a plus.
A strong understanding of systems administration best practices a plus.
Large scale 24/7 system operation management experience a plus.
Extensive Knowledge of multi-platform operating system environments (Windows, Unix, Linux) a plus.
