Our Company is the largest provider of telecommunications maintenance services, with operations in over 30 states, to correctional facilities in the U.S. We are currently seeking a Part Time Service Technician located in the Los Angeles, CA area.
Position Summary:
Our Service Technicians are responsible for the service and maintenance of inmate phone systems in state of the art correctional facilities (escorts are provided for safety) and public pay telephones located in airports and major transportation facilities. Troubleshoot T-1 problems, identify hardware and software problems and work with various vendors to resolve said problems. The qualified candidate will need to be available to respond to any call outs at the assigned site (backups are provided during scheduled and emergency absences).
The ideal candidate should possess:
Expertise in wiring infrastructure, sets, and troubleshooting of dialtone/T1 problems to the demarc
Experience working with MS-Windows based servers and workstations including Microsoft Office Suite (2 Years).
Telephone and computer experience (5 Years). Including but not limited to: pulling cable (Cat3 & Cat5), terminations (110, 66, Krone, RJ11 & RJ45) up to 100 pair cables and troubleshooting wiring / T1 / CO dial tone problems and computer repairs (drive, card, board, memory replacements and troubleshooting of hardware as well as OS problems).
Excellent ability at multi-tasking, setting priorities and tracking issues concurrently, with minimal supervision.
Experience with outside plant or premise wiring installations
Knowledge of job drawings, sketches, prints and other project documentation
Familiar with installation and maintenance of telephony equipment, cabling and related documentation
Possess good interpersonal skills and customer service experience
Working knowledge of test equipment, i.e. TBIRD, VOM, Sidekick, CAT5 Cable tester etc.
Responsibilities:
* Installation of wired services and equipment as outlined on job drawings, and specs
* Diagnose, repair and adjust telephone and ancillary equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimal down time
* Pull, terminate and test cable as necessary
* Some administrative work to include personal time sheets, vouchers, advance requests - processed as required
* Maintain confidentiality, safety and security standards at all times on assigned projects
* Respond to customer requests, questions or concerns in a professional and timely manner
Required:
* Must be able to pass a comprehensive ten (10) year background check
* Must be able to pass internal certification test within first two months of employment
* Must be able to lift 50 pounds
* Must be able to climb, squat, bend and sit for prolonged periods of time
* High School Diploma or Equivalent
* Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, excellent driving record (3 years)
* One to three years of technical education, training or related experience
* Ability to write, speak, and communicate fluently in the English language
