Hello,
I have just moved to the area from northern California and I am looking for a nanny position. I am a graduate student and I have been a professional nanny for 7 years (and a babysitter for 6 prior years). I am a single mom to a spirited 5 year old daughter who is homeschooled and has always joined me at work.
My philosophy:
I have practiced and have experience with all aspects of attachment parenting, including babywearing, cloth diapering, gentle discipline, etc. I assisted at a holistic, outdoor-based preschool in the mountains of northern California, and I strive to create a similar environment in which children are engaged with nature and learn through play. I have a basic knowledge of non-violent communication, Waldorf, and Montessori, and I am constantly studying progressive styles of early childhood education to incorporate parts of their philosophies into my interaction with children. My daughter and I are vegan and TV-free, and I love spending my days with children as we go on outings to the library/museum/park, explore nature, read, sing, dance, create art, and do pretend play. I feel passionately about children being in an environment in which they are treated with respect, gentleness, and love at all times.
Summary of my work experience:
-2003-2005: Nanny for elementary school-aged twins.
-2005-2007: Nanny for three children aged 2-7.
-2007-2009: Nanny for three toddlers.
-2009-present: Nanny for three children aged 5-10. This is my current position that I will be leaving because the mom(an editor of a parenting magazine) is quitting her job to stay at home.
I have experience with all aspects of child care, including preparing meals, homework assistance, scheduling and supervising play dates, driving children to and from school and activities, etc. I have also helped families out with petsitting/housesitting, personal assisting, overnight childcare, traveling, and providing temporary live-in care while one parent is away for an extended business trip.
I have extensive experience with all ages, as well as with multiples and special needs(Down Syndrome, autism, and Asperger's).
Additional qualifications:
-CPR/First Aid trained(certification has expired but willing to re-certify)
-CDL, insurance, perfect driving record, and safe and reliable car
-Non-smoker
-Completed courses in early childhood education as well as infant/child psychology
-Certified childbirth educator, trained by Pam England
-Postpartum doula experience
-Superb references
I look forward to hearing from you if you think I may be a good match with your family!
